SURF WEAR
Surfing is one of the most recognized sports in the world!
For the most dedicated surfer, however, surfing is more than just a water sport or activity...surfing is a way of life. Even when surfers aren’t out in the ocean and riding the waves, you can identify a true-blue surfer by the clothes they wear.
The surf-wear garb is all about comfort and laid-backness.
Surf wear trends are so easy to wear that even non-surfers wear these styles. As a result, many companies have built businesses solely devoted to surf-wear.
When talking about surf wear styles, five traditional brands naturally come to mind: Billabong, Hurley, O’Neill, Rip Curl, and Quicksilver.
These brands have come a long way from when they were first established, and for 2013, most of these brands look like they have more than enough appeal to maintain their standing in surf wear trends.
Rip Curl, however, seems to be struggling to remain in the Elite 5 since they lost a lot of money in 2012. Whether they can regain what they lost remains to be seen, but it seems like they’re slowly heading out the back door.
The traditional surf-wear labels, popular as they are, shouldn’t be too complacent.
Hot new brands are in the shops, and they’re more than ready to give the corporate brands a good run for their money...
Recommended are:
- RVCA (even though it is owned by Billabong)
With quirky names, great styles and well-constructed products, they’re sure to catch the attention of any surfer (or surfer-poser).
These three brands – Hippy Tree, RVCA, and Freedom Artists – stay true to the surfing lifestyle by keeping their collections simple yet durable.
The designs are creative without going overboard.
These brands take Mother Nature into consideration in their designs.
Expect their items to be made from organic, environment-friendly materials. Shirts and shorts are usually in blue, brown, and green
— reflecting the colors of nature.
The same things can be said for footwear.
Sanuk is still looking good in this department, what with products that are made with surfers in mind. The brand offers a wide array of choices for those who are a bit particular on the fashion side, but Mother Nature is the central theme in their products too. Their footwear comes in all designs and patterns, but earth tones dominate the collection.
For flip flops, with the vast array of options available in this area,
there’s sure to be something for every type of personality.
There hasn’t been much going on in the world of flip flops recently, but this is one place where loud and bold patterns and colors have been quite the trend. These colorful patterns add a pop to an otherwise subtle surf wear trend.
If you’re looking for a burst of color in your outfit, go for a loud pair of flip flops.
Surf wear trends have come a long way and they’ve become a great medium to express care and concern over the environment too.
One thing’s for sure: surfers set trends and the rest of the population wants to look like you if they can’t be you, joke ;)
but the most important thing is functionality!
